I thought I would use today to go through some topics that are on my mind. We are going to do this all rapid-fire style.
Chiefs Love to Promote From Within:
Count me as one of the people who was not jumping for joy with the news of Romeo Crennel getting the interim titled lifted came out. I will give Romeo a chance to change my mind, but as of now I have a lot of fear about this hire. Promoting the really nice-guy assistant coach does not end well. Much has been made about Chiefs players chanting Crennel’s name in the locker room after the final game of the season and campaigning for him to receive the job. To me that is a red flag, a giant red flag. Some players have said that should not be an issue. That Crennel can still be the authority figure while being a player-friendly coach. The jury is still out for me on that one.
MU Basketball Team has Staying Power:
Lots worried and many more jumped off the MU bandwagon after the blowout loss at K-State. I was close to doing that too but the game at Iowa State has reaffirmed my stance with the Tigers. The way MU battled back on the road vs. Iowa State impressed me more than the blowout win vs. Okalahoma did. Road wins do not come easy in the Big 12. Especially when your team’s best player is held to one field goal and scores a total of six points. This team has a mental toughness that was lacking last season.
Thomas Robinson Going Beast Mode:
I have not been as quick to heap “Player of the Year/Best College Player in the Nation” praise on Thomas Robinson but he is making it more difficult not to talk about him like that. The biggest question around T-Rob was how he would do when he played against elite level, NBA type talent. The game vs. Baylor put all those fears to rest. That game had NBA all over the place and all Robinson did was post 27 points and 14 rebounds. I still have Michael Kidd-Gilchrist from Kentucky as the best college player in the nation. But the gap has narrowed.
Tebow Maina:
Tebow Mania sucked for everyone who is not a Broncos fans. But look at it this way, Chiefs’ fans. Now Tim Tebow will be the starter for the Broncos next season. I will count that as 2 wins.
